Studying without a study permit in Canada – foreign workers

Merit:

To be eligible to study without a study permit, foreign workers must obtain permission to work in Canada with one of the following documents: a valid work permit issued on or before June 7, 2023, or a letter authorizing to work while the work permit extension is being processed, and submitted in June 7, 2023 or before. It is important to note that work permit applications submitted after June 7, 2023 are not eligible for this procedure.

If you work in Quebec:

Quebec workers can now study in the province without the need for a study permit, thanks to this temporary public policy that took effect on June 27, 2023. The measure also relieves workers of the obligation to obtain a Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ) issued by the Ministry of Immigration, French and Integration. (MIFI) for the study.

The period during which you can study:

The period during which foreign workers can study without a study permit depends on their status. If you have a work permit that was valid on June 7, 2023, you may study without a study permit until the date your work permit expires or until June 27, 2026, the date your public interest policy expires, whichever comes first. Similarly, if you have a work permit application pending on 7 June 2023, you can study without a study permit until the date the approved work permit extension expires, the date your application for extension is refused or on 27 June 2026, whichever comes first.
